Beautiful morning light and atmosphere as an autumn storm clears away. McDonald Creek, Glacier Park, Montana.

Great shot with nice light again. How do you manage to always get that great light in your photos?

Casper, I spend about 200 days each year in the field tracking down the light. It really helps to know your area well also, and have the flexibility to get out and go whenever you think the light will be best. Still, it's not easy. I was very fortunate this past trip, which lasted 40 days, to catch a lot of breaks between storms, and those types of clearings often yeild the type of light you see here. In 40 days of non-stop shooting, I only made 15 or 20 images that I considered adding to my website and permanent collection, and that is quite a bit above average for my trips! It's a lot of time, work, knowledge and patience.

Marc, I've spent a lot of time looking through your photos (over and over again) and wishing I could take images like yours. I really appreciate your comment above, about how many pictures you take and how few you end up using, not to mention how much time you have to take these. It makes me feel just a little bit better about my own efforts, given the fact that I’m limited to weekends. You have such amazing images, really moving work. And it's wonderful because a lot of your photos are from Oregon (where I myself live) and you show me such lovely places in this state and others in the west. I'm envious of you, but I also really appreciate that you share this beautiful work with the rest of us. You have the dream job that we can only wish for, and the talent to go with it! So thank you for taking the time to post on photo.net, and for the candid explanations and details that you usually include with your images. Deborah.

Hello,

Very nice picture, again :-) I especially like to colors on the rock in the foreground.

I have been following your portfolio for a while, and I wanted to ask you 2 questions -

I know you take your time to catch the best light, but still the question is, how much Photoshop there is :-) Don't get me wrong, I probably use more PS then you do(I do panoramas mostly, image stitching - huge exposure differences), but I was still curious. Let's say this image(or this one http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=8145064). Would it be possible to send me some 400px original to my email? I would like to compare my original shots with yours :-)

Another one is maybe even more private - how do you "sponsor" your trips? Travelling to destinations and spending 200 days outside must cost a fortune - not mentioning that you are probably not earning much during that period :-) If it's too private, don't bother to anwer.

Anyway, you are doing a great job and your works and approach towards photography are great source of inspiration for me.

Marc you are discovering new places. While I envy you, I am very thankful to you as others for bringing out the hidden beauty. You are opening the new chapters into nature photography. You probably already are for many like me, but for the entire world "Marc Adamus" will be the first name to be recognized into Nature and landscape photography. Congratulations to your tremendous passion and also monumental efforts you take.

Marc..I very much enjoy looking at your work and when you post images from my neck of the woods like this one I feel a sort of pride and privilege to live near such a beautiful park. I've seen this view of the Garden Wall many times but have never come close to photographing it so well. I'll keep trying and use your work as inspiration. Fred

Lukas, i dont know if Marc will answer or not your question about how much postprocessing he does in PS.

But, im my opinion and personal experience, i think there´s no "need" to use to much PS if you have the technique, patience and correct equipment (GND filters, etc) to get a balanced exposure of the scene. The far you can go is in cases when a manual blending is the only solution to reach a correct exposure.

Other than that, colors, vibrance, and other ajustments can be done in the original raw file.

Just my opinion.

Best regards

Ricardo.

Hello Ricardo,

I do not know that either :-)

The less PS the better, I fully agree. That's why I wanted to find out, how far from Marc's craftmanship my skills are (solely from the RAW material point of view, I can clearly evaluate my photos in the terms of composition, light, subject and so on :-).

I am especially interested in Marc coz he picks scenes with very difficult light - uneven horizont with sun in front of him. He's usually not avoiding angles where the lights is a problem - unlike this friend of mine for example: http://www.borievky.com/

Take care

Lukas
