marcadamus 1 Posted November 3, 2008 The use of negative space is critical here. Exposing for the highlights, and only the highlights makes this composition work. The river flows through a very brushy area on the left side here. It does not make the S curve you see illuminated here, but by visulizing what the scene would look like using only the highlights, I was able to create this image by the moonlight. You'll notice a single planet or star, (astrologers - this was looking SSW at 8:30pm on September 27) not sure which one, streaking through the sky during the 11-minute exposure which I felt added a little something, in addition to the cloud motion. This was from Glacier park overlooking McDonald creek. There was almost no PS work for this one. Thanks for any comments. Link to comment
harrylichtman 0 Posted November 3, 2008 Very cool- another one of your longggggg exposures that has an eerie feel to it. How do you calculate your real long exposures, or is some trial and error? Once again, a unique image. Regards, Harry Link to comment
stuart_williams 0 Posted November 4, 2008 curious to know whether there was any noise (hotspots or other) created in the 11 min exposure? thanks, stuart Link to comment
ricardolapiettra 0 Posted November 5, 2008 Cant believe this one Marc, just amazing. The scene drawed by the reflected moonlight is almost surreal. Im doing long exposures lately and almost always i get underexposed images out of my shutter speed calculations, do you compensate exposure after metering? Link to comment
teemu vedenoja 0 Posted November 5, 2008 Definitely the technic works well in this one. Looks dreamy. Link to comment

ryoung 0 Posted November 8, 2008 on its own it is clearly a wonderful image. however i especially like that it is something different then your usual. one question: there is some grass (?) on the lower left that is highlighted with a rust color. is this also just from the lunar illumination? cheers, ryan Link to comment
seungkyelee 0 Posted November 10, 2008 Love these strong lines that intertwine and moody light! The whole image seem to twist and turn, alive. Very impressive image Marc. Link to comment
yannik_hay 1 Posted November 10, 2008 As you say, Mark, here the highlights and negative space is very well balanced. The black does the contour of the river. I like the streaks in the sky and the planet adds to complete the sky, and the mist in the middle plan. I love the indigo blue and I see a wee bit of colour on the grass in the left bottom corner. Great work! Cheers! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted August 29, 2009 this is a picture to be jealous of, beautiful work. but how do you do 11 minute exposers? Link to comment
vickifrance 0 Posted October 15, 2009 How do you have an 11 minute exposure WITHOUT WIND blur? Every time I attempt a long exposure the wind kicks up and all the trees tops become a blur. Another beauty Marc. Link to comment
