Trisha,

First of all thank you for your time to visit my work and for your kind comment.

This photo is made up from two separate 35mm conventional film. One negative of the model photographed using natural side lighting through a window. The second negative is of dry clay dune. I have put these negatives together (sandwich) and printed together treated them as one negative.

All the process was made in a conventional darkroom. The one presented here has laost some detail as it was uploaded here simply by scanning the original print on an ordinary flat bed scanner.

Hope you find this explanation useful.

Wishing you the best.......Raymond.

Thank you so much for answering me. I only have a digital camera (beginner one). Is it possible to do something like this with digital on photoshop elements? I have heard of the term "sandwiching" but have never known what it was...I guess it is layering two images together then? I hope this is possible on Photoshop because I love the effect...it looks like a sandy texture painted over your photograph and I think it is lovely!

I don't know how to work with layers yet and I am just now discovering different textures on photoshop so one day I hope I can do something as lovely as this image. Thanks again for sharing it and your answer; I appreciate it! :)

Trisha,

The term sandwiching was often used befor the introduction of digital. You right right. In this new digital era, layering two images together is much easier than the old times, where one has to do all the work manually in the darkroom (as this one). I suggest you to follow a basic photoshop course. Using layers is essential as it allows you to become much more creative. You must try it and have fun. Hope to see some experiments through photoshop in your portfolio in the coming future. Congrats.
