The full Moon is greatly dimmed within Earth's shadow. The

reddish-orange color is created as the Sun's rays are filtered and

refracted through Earth's atmosphere. The next such eclipse will occur

on 2010 Dec 21.

Please forgive my ignorance...but what is the small dot directly below the moon near the edge of the frame? Thanks.

All the Best!
