I don't know much about this late Gothic style spiral staircase - part of

the 19/20th century extension of the cathedral, looks like it was built in

1907. HDR / B&W conversion in CS3.

...its shots like these where the tilt-shift lens really comes into its own - keeping the perspective correct and the verticals upright. The sunlight was very intense on the top of the tower, but very dark inside tower - just +2,0,-2 bracketing and HDR worked out well. Cheers! RickDB

Nice composition again Rick with good control over the contrast..One day I may treat myself to a tilt-shift lens ...:-)) Good luck!

...Thanks for taking the time to comment - of the many shots I took of St. Vitus this is one of my favourites, and I think it works particularly well in B&W.

Keith, the Canon 24 mm Tilt-shift lens is fantastic for architecture - it is manual focus and TTL exposure is only accurate when it is not shifted, so manual exposure is required too - it best suited to use with a tripod. This was hand held (tripods not allowed) and it works well once you get used to its foibles. 24 mm on a 40D is equivalent to at 38 mm lens, which doesn't sound like a wide angle lens at all. But its deceptive because really it is an ultra wide-angle lens from which you can select "24mm worth" of image - so the 50% of wasted foreground is converted to useable image with no converging verticals. Cheers! RickDB
