Manhattan used to be and still is often a tangle of vehicles, but more

recently it has become a more 'people-friendly' city. These oriental

youths (two skateboarders and a bicyclist) are caught on a major

northbound thoroughfare in Manhattan's Chinatown just below Houston

Street (SoHo) on a recent Saturday late, when there was almost no

traffic at all - something once unthinkable for Manhattan. Your ratings

and critiques are invited and most welcome. If you rate harshly or very

critically, please submit a helpful and constructive comment, please

share your superior photographic knowledge to help improve my

photography. (horizon left 'not leve' on purpose). Thanks! Enjoy! John

The girl passenger on the bike has a skateboard strapped to her back, in case you wondered 'where is the second skateboarder?'

This Photo (and its series) were taken from the driver's side by the driver of a moving vehicle. Camera was prefocused/focal point preset and exposure settings were predetermined. Continuous servo (motor) drive was engaged and as these youths went forward, so did the auto, resulting in a series of photos of these youths.

Streets were mostly deserted at that time and place and very wide so this maneuver could be done with complete safety.

Thanks for the compliment.

Unfortunately this one is not being so well-received as you (and I) feel.

Oh well, you can't please 'em all.

Thanks again, Ruud.

I think may be initial raters got confused by the cockeyed horizon.

As Garry Winogrand showed, the horizon in 'street' -- especially in 'NYC streeet',needn't always be level, and a few of my posted NYC photos show that, but not intentionally - just they were taken hastily (this while I was driving) and the 'tilt' shows dynamism that matches the action and suggests 'attitude'.

I have an increasing appreciation for Mr. Winogrand. Too bad he didn't have a long life and fell into decline photographically. I'm older than he when he died -- a fair bit older, and just getting started.

I DO NOT CARE WHO DID IT OR DOES IT, YOU CANNOT HELP TO SEE HOW MUCH BETTER A PHOTO IS WITHOUT THE HARSH SUNLIGHT TO WASH OUT. ETC. HERE YOU HAVE TEXTURE IN ALL THE WHITES AND THE DARK JEANS (JEANS, GEANS ???) .
