pnital 36 Posted October 22, 2008 Gord, Threnody is a beautiful depiction of this scene as well, thanks for letting me have the link and your explanation, of a new word to my vocabulary. "A threnody is an ode or song of lamentation. Here is the Wikipedia blurb: " A threnody is a song or hymn of mourning composed or performed as a memorial. (synonyms include dirge, coronach, lament, and elegy). The term originates from the Greek word threnoidia, from threnos (lament) + oide (song). " So this is really a dedication to you . I hope for others to see it as well. Thanks Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted October 23, 2008 Pnina, you are enlightened and enlightening us:-) Stunning shot.Rhapsody & Threnody together in one image. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted October 23, 2008 I enjoy how open ended this image is. The relationship between the three figures is mysterious. The girl dancing with the squeeze-box has a somewhat celebratory pose. The girl exiting the scene stage right appears, judging by the angle, to be being forcibly dragged from the scene. The placement of the various elements in the frame gives a pleasing composition. I like the negative space on one edge balancing the partial figure leaving via the opposite frame edge. Thanks for the dedication, I am honoured. As for your vocabulary, you communicate more eloquently in English than many people for whom it is a native language. What is found in the heart will always be more important than what lies within the pages of a dictionary. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted October 23, 2008 Amal, thanks a lot, but it is Gordon to thank here...;-)) Gord, thanks. As usual I love your way of expression( both your photography and wording) and I see it a privilege to enjoy both of them! Thanks again my friend. Daily, thanks for your "long" impression...Hahahah ;-)) Link to comment
maggies 0 Posted October 23, 2008 Pnina..Definitely important to view large... the mottled, purple background color creates a unique atmosphere...very impressionistic...a Degas? Great capture and story....Marjorie Link to comment
milena_safrova 0 Posted October 23, 2008 Very dramatic and expressive picture, it forces the viewer to think about its concept. Link to comment

joe-tury 0 Posted October 24, 2008 The exiting dancer really catches my eye even though it is but a fleeting glimpse. The tilted angle of her legs is a great contrast to the vertical and horizontal figures. Love it. Link to comment

paula grenside 0 Posted October 24, 2008 Again a very intense moment of the ballet, Pnina. Not sure of the leg on the right; I find it a bit distracting and the central figures deserve all the attention. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted October 25, 2008 The title pairs nicely with the photo. Even before I read the title, I was thinking that this had the feel of a Greek tragedy, especially the figure on the floor. That bright leg exiting the scene adds another layer. Link to comment
adan1 0 Posted October 26, 2008 Thanks Gordon and Pnina for the enlightening lesson. The dramatic poses are well captured and the cut off leg on the left provokes curiosity. The dancer on the floor reminds me of a character from one of Gustav Klimt's paintings. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted October 26, 2008 Marjorie, thanks Dega, really painted Ballet scene, but all of them Classic,, what I photograph is more modern. But thanks for reminding his name, he is a great painter. Milena, it is a dance that has a lot of turns and a long narrative in it, I try to share seconds of some of the dance "sentences". Vladimir, it is a long time that I don't pay attention, and use the rating system...because I prefer getting, and evaluating others, in writing. I find it much more helpful. Thanks Joe, Ektor and Alberto, I appreciate your feedback ! Paula, thanks for your point of view, the previous part of that dance "sentence", has all the stage for the center dancers. Look here: http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=8021179 This is another part and I wanted the contrast of the inside dancers and the exit of another part of the group, seen by the leaving legs... ;-)) But your idea for a frame without the legs is valid as well, just another possibility Jeff, thanks , Threnody is a great depiction of the scene. I'm grateful to Gordon for his explanation and link. The end of the dance is that the middle standing dancer, is slowly exiting the stage singing a sad melody, it is so very touching, like a Greek tragedy. Adan,, interesting association to G. Klimt. There is something if I think of it. Thanks for your nice feedback. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 27, 2008 I haven't been too active lately, I can't seem to concentrate on my photographs lately, my attention being focused on the upcoming US elections. I like this picture very much (of course you are the master of the stage). Here the composition is very much to my taste, especially the legs and the little bit of red skirt exiting stage left. It's that small touch that adds dynamism to the scene and complements the more classically posed central figures. I here you are heading to The States soon. Wish I could join you; maybe you can make it to Japan in the future. Have a great trip. Link to comment
