John Peri 1,029 Posted October 23, 2008 Your photos have for the moment left the traditional paths though which we are accustomed to perceive and critique art. I follow what you are doing with great interest. Most impressing to me is your willingness and ability to just do your thing, without care for what others so gleefully refer to as the "rules" ! Incidentally, After all these years, I have still not discovered where these "rules" are to be found and who wrote them, nor has anyone ever guided me in that direction until now. I know only one person who has been to photography school (one of my delightful models that I have posted on occasions and who in fact taught me a lot) and she was told in her first semester to forget everything she had ever heard and just do her thing. Now that sounds to me like good advice .. how else is innovation ever to come about. Link to comment
JPPhoto1664880217 5 Posted October 23, 2008 Following the “rules” tends to produce images that are the similar to many other images. From my perspective, this produces images that are more documentary than art. Jim Phelps Link to comment

peter clark 0 Posted October 25, 2008 Hi Jim, this image caught my interest, I like it. I totally agree with what John stated about the "rules" especially the so called rule of thirds, where a photo is judged or critiqued for not confirming to the rule of thirds, I believe that consistently producing outstanding work is the the only rule that needs to be obeyed, which clearly you have no problem with achieving....
