Jack McRitchie 150 Posted October 22, 2008 Impressive. It looks like one of the four horsemen of the Apocolypse riding hard to catch up with his fellows. Link to comment
michaellinder 16,611 Posted October 22, 2008 David: A spectacular rendition of a horrible theme. The sole tree remaining after the nuclear holocaust speaks volumes. But aside from a commentary on the folly of humankind, it also tells us that life will find a way. The colors in this shot are amazing. Also, I think the tilt of the horizon is quite consistent with the overall theme of the photograph. Congratulations on a very impressive piece. michael Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 22, 2008 Good thing I didn't think of that. I might have entitled it "Apocalypse Now." And it's a shame to have to use someone else's title. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 22, 2008 Thanks for the lovely comment and rating.. The tilt in the horizon, while possibly off putting to some, was quite deliberate. It is my way of representing the off kilterness of existence. On a normal basis I refrain from shooting sunsets and sunrises. I appreciate their beauty, but they can be such a cliche. But when I saw that contrail and the lone tree, I could not resist. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 22, 2008 "A fissure in paradise?" Wow, I like that a lot too. What a perfect title. Where were you when I needed you? Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted October 22, 2008 This is quite a beauty David. I did not know there was such countryside around Fresno. 8~)# Link to comment
alight 0 Posted October 22, 2008 the colours on my (saturated-looking) monitor are just smashing. Also, a beautiful composition. This photo is where simplicity and beauty meet - a zen photo. I'm not very keen on the theatrical frame. Nice to see some V8 pic from you, finally. Cheers, Micheal Link to comment
blue-olympus 0 Posted October 22, 2008 A visual treat David...totally awesome in its production and theme...Bravo! Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted October 22, 2008 The tree really looks like a racing horse.....reading your title It is no wonder on one hand, but on the other, it is too beautiful a world for the nuclear option. So I'm glad it is a tree and not a horse....;-)) well thought Dave. Link to comment
adan1 0 Posted October 22, 2008 I feel like I am watching a painting and being seduced by its multilayers of colors. Everything is so calm and beautiful until you notice the fissure in the middle descending from above like a retribution from the gods. Link to comment
godfather 0 Posted October 24, 2008 I believe that the next one will be with the mushroom ;DGreat colors BTW. Link to comment

bosshogg 4 Posted October 25, 2008 As those of you who are acquainted with me know, it is my custom to thank each and every person who comments on my images individually. I've recently been traveling and have fallen considerable behind in my activity on Pnet. Rather than spend an inordinate amount of time in that process, I will just thank you all collectively, and get busy viewing (and commenting on) your recent posts. So, my sincere thanks to all of you. Link to comment
timkeller 0 Posted October 25, 2008 I like the striations and gradations of color, David, and of course the composition itself is right up my alley. As for the tilt, I've had to do the opposite: nothing is level where I live, so the natural and correct level is tilted but sometimes I've had to level it just to keep from disorienting confused and displeased flatlanders. dandem 1 Posted October 27, 2008 Powerful image - it leaves astrong image in one's mind. Well done, Regards, Lawrence. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 30, 2008 It was meant to be disorienting and thoughtful. The slant is integral to that concept. Thanks. Link to comment
janusz1 0 Posted November 3, 2008 Color and composition support dramatic theme of the shot perfectly. It reminds me about moment from childhood... Kennedy/Chruschov conflict... the nuclear holocoust was to start at 3pm (?).. I was alone at home... at around 2pm I remember I just run out on the field... sat down with watch in my hand... counting minutes... at 10sec before 3pm I closed my eyes... I was out there just like that tree... lonely and so vurnerable...and very very scarred Great Shot David. Regards Link to comment
dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted November 10, 2008 Beautiful colors. The inclusion of the tree is great, as it really gives me a sense of how expansive a scale is included in the frame. Very peaceful and relaxing. I like it. Link to comment
Emmanuel Enyinwa 0 Posted January 13, 2009 Lovely blast of color, David. More in the Susan Stone style. Yet, the title reminds usall that thisain't just a pretty picture but a warning, (prophesy?). Link to comment
