Halloween - 3

A collaborative effort with Tiffany Brook on a scary Halloween picture. This is a composite of Tiffany's photo and one of my earlier windmills. It was an iterative process over a few days and final approval by the subject young lady, Tiffany's daughter, Avalon. Thanks, Tiffany and Avalon! Happy Halloween!

A Halloween photo. Is it scary enough? Will it make you lose sleep

tonight?

Great work Michael (>8. The scar and eyes are really cool. Actually out of the 2 kids...Ziggy is the one that sometimes scares me and costs sleep. Avalon is just about the most perfect kid that I know. And her endorsement of the image? "He made me look like Frankenstein!!!" (followed by lots of giggles). I am doing a test run of her Halloween makeup tonight. I will post pix when I have them.

I wont loose sleep over it, except with jealousy of not being able to take that photo myself. It's wonderfully done, and I love the mood and her eyes. Thanks for sharing and have a great Halloween...

Thank you for your comments, Manual and Alexa. This picture was made possible by the generosity of Tiffany and Avalon. Heavy manipulation of a child's image is always sensitive, so I'm sincerely grateful for their spirit of fun and Halloween which this picture was intended.

Well, Sheryl, this amateur is flattered by your generous remark. I'm still a bit uncertain about the coloring of the windmill and fake lightning strikes, though.

Michael, Fits the theme well. What's to critique other than to say I think you've aced your attempt to project a spooky looking image. Makeup, usually overdone in this type of shot, is perfect in it's light application. Only the essentials. ( love the scar) Great little actress. She should audition for a horror movie or TV show. The fact that the lighting direction and it's soft quality is the same for your subject and for the windmill makes this shot even more believable. No accident I'd bet. Best, LM.

Hey Lannie, Len. Thanks for stopping in. It was an opportunity to explore that I just couldn't pass up and turned out to be quite an exercise at many levels.

 

One of the things I tried was the asymmetrical face treatment: the left and right eyes are slightly different in levels, and her right was treated with eyeliner and a scar below. The idea was to see if her stare can be enhanced without excessive manipulation. Try this: Alternately cover the left and right half of her face - the right half should appear "friendlier" while the left more menacing. Coupled with the bright/dark shading, was what I'm hoping will accentuate the "evilness".

It's too scary! I can hardly type my comments with the photo displayed together. brrr...

How can you be scared of such a sweet, innocent little girl? Is it the way she looks through you? Do you have anything to hide...?! :-)

You're right about the eyes, Michael, and I would have thought that it would have been the reverse as to which eye looked more evil when viewed by itself.

I hope that tonight I can get some sleep. Your figures are haunting, Michael, haunting.

Lannie, to be honest, I can't stomach horror movies at all. They actually frighten me. You would think I've been desensitized by Exorcist as a teenager, but no, it gets worse as I get older. Maybe this series of photos is my way of becoming desensitized again.
