Crater Lake in Oregon lies in a caldera, or volcano basin. It has no inlet or outlet and it's sole source is the 530 inches of annual snowfall. It is also the deepest lake in the US and the 7th deep

Really nice capture, but the blue looks too blue to be real. It's the kind of thing that if an artist painted it you would think he was exagerating the colour for effect.

Great pic.

I recognize that the blue is to blue to look real. The problem is that it is. Crater lake is a contained lake (no inlet or outlet) and it is very deep (around 2000 ft). And it is really blue like in the picture. It is hard to believe until you see it with your own eyes.

That's a wonderful shot, Doug! I've been once in OR, but my relatives didn't tell me about this one, but the Multnomah Falls (I guess that's the name). Of course, I've been over there for two days only, so I couldn't see too many places. Hope one day I'll see this lake too! Congrats for the shot!

What stands out to me here is the crispness, the trees so sharp against the royal blue, the greens so deep, the redness of the tree trunk framing the left so earthy. I like the driftwood in the foreground adding to the dimension of this shot. The shape of the lake, especially its foreground coming to a point the way it does, is inviting.

As a kid my parents took us up there. What I remember most was this color blue. Oh and a little island? Nice shot lots of DOF and some wonderful color...RAY

Thanks for the comments

Eddie Oregon does have some nice falls. Here is one of my favorite shots. Not my picture but so nice it deserves attention

Fred As usual, thanks so much for the detailed comment. Your description is exactly what caught my eye at the lake.

Raymond You're right. The lake does have another island in the middle that is actually has another caldera. A volcano within a volcano. I have some shots of that too, but this was my favorite from the group.
