A concert of the Baroque group in the scottish church in Jerusalem. Great acoustic, atmospher, and wonderful music, with a skilled soprano singer.( a general rehearsal)

Thanks for your impressions.

Although this is an excellent picture, I believe the light arch and strong lighting at the top compete too much with the more shadowed ensemble below. In my opinion, Pnina, it might have been better to concentrate on the players who form a wonderful tableau in themselves.

I generally agree to an alarming degree with Mr. McRitchie, but I think in this case he may be allowing his eyes to ramble when a bit of discipline is needed. It's true the eyes automatically go to the bright lights, but they need not let that detain them as they start to take in and digest that wonderful tableau played out beneath them. The light there is clearly more subtle and interesting than the bright lights above. My brain is willing to overlook them and consider them merely an adornment to the rest. I like very much.

Thanks all of you.

Jack and David, interesting two points of view. As I always work with more than one version I will upload the second version, and each will be able to choose the version he thinks is better( I have many versions of the concert in that church, I have upload the one I thought will have the whole "landscape" of the church) ....

I really appreciate it when a photo of mine evockes different explained !! points of view, from you two it is a benefit., and please let me know if you see it, and want to write again, does the second version changed your first impressions? Thanks a lot.

Marjorie, the rows were filled a short time later on....

Elsi, great to hear from you, I hope you enjoyed Greece, it is a contry I like a lot! I hope you are well and happy!

Tim, I liked the atmospher of that church and the difference of light and shadow. The music was great. ;-))

Pnina, I have viewed all three versions and it's hard to decide which I think is best. One problem is that the images are all too big for my monitor and I have to scroll down to see the whole picture. There is such a difference beween the top third of the photo and the bottom third in terms of tone that the only way to get a real feeling for the picture is to see the whole thing as a single image at once. Having said that, the original image is, I think, still the best. Perhaps adjusting the tones within the image, lighterning the bottom and darkening the top might be a possible solution. I agree with David that the arch is a definite addition to the composition.

Jack it is exactly how the lights and shadow were in the church, and it was great with the music... I upload a smaller size for your screen. I hope it works ...

The musicians are casted against this dramatic background like characters in a film noir setting. In particular, I am taken by the role that light plays in this composition and how it fills the room. The upper portion of this picture can be engaging enough in its own. I would have cropped a little bit on the left side just because of the ending of the arch protruding, but then if you do that it would have cropped part of the woman sitting on the left. Overall a very intriguing and fascinating shot. The alternate shots above are just as interesting.

Thanks for expressing so nicely your impressions( in all of them! ). you are right about cropping the L side, as it was a rehearsal I wanted her to stay( also cropping it would have made it too even compositionwise), the atmospher as well was very special for me , this contrast of light and shadow... ( it was a very short time before the real concert started), so thats how the church looked in the concert show( only with people...)

I think that the other versions are presenting the differences. Thanks again Adan.

...the images are all too big for my monitor and I have to scroll down to see the whole picture.. same problem here: I like to take a look at the photos from 1 - 2 meters distance, like I would in a gallery. Otherwise - in this field of work, you are the master.

Looking at the different versions of this image, I really think the best is the one you posted. The light and tone values are outstanding, and though it is a black and white photo, my lecture is of warmth and intimacy.

Or, I could just say that I really like it.

Cheers!

Juan Carlos, thank for your well expressed feelings of this one. Despite the other version, this is how the scene was in the church, and I loved the contrasts and intimacy it radiated, fited very well to the music that was magic.
