dacamera 0 Posted October 2, 2008 A brocken Spectre (see below for explanation) with the hills of the Scottish Borders in the background. All comments appreciated. Link to comment
dacamera 0 Posted October 2, 2008 The Brocken Spectre is a magnified shadow of the observer cast by the sun onto cloud or mist. It is named after the Brocken, a peak in the Harz mountains of Germany where this phenomenon is relatively common. I have seen it happen in the mountains on several occasions but the view is usually obscured by the cloud which the shadow is cast onto. This was unique as the mist was only a few inches deep and didn't obscure anything at all. The spectre can only be seen by the person who is casting the shadow. Link to comment
jtipton 0 Posted October 2, 2008 Stunning landscape. Very nice addition of your shadow. Takes it to a new level of interesting. Compliments-Jim Link to comment
whydangle 0 Posted October 2, 2008 Luckily it can also be seen by the camera of the person who is casting the shadow. I have seen this a couple of other times, once recorded by Galen Rowell while on a climbing expedition. That puts you right up there with one of the more revered contemporary photographers of our time. Now how does that feel! This is stunning Simon, a real hat trick thats real. This ought to replace your personal profile pic, not that the current one is bad, just that this one defines you in a more expressive way. Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted October 3, 2008 Well, if this is a phenomenon, then the capture is truly phenomenal. A stunning image with such a wide diversity of temperature... cold foreground, warm hills and the dramatic sky all contribute equally... just excellent! Mike Link to comment
