Episcopal Church - Duotone

kartik

This color picture was scanned into the computer, desaturated in Photoshop. A duotone was then applied before reconversion to RGB.

A color version of this image can also be seen in my portfolio.

As always, thanks for looking :->.

Thanks for the question, Tom. The original was shot on 35mm transparency film(Fujichrome Velvia). It was scanned on an old (now defunct) Nikon Coolscan.

In Adobe Photoshop, I adjusted colors, sharpened the image, and cropped it for aesthetics.

For the B&W conversion from color, I used Image>Adjustments>Desaturate to look at the B&W version. Then I changed the image to grayscale (Image>Mode>Grayscale in Photoshop). This discarded the color information. I then used Image>Mode>Duotone to pull up the duotone dialog box. I kept Ink 1 as black, and then played with a variety of Pantone Solid Coated ink colors as the secondary (toning color) for Ink 2. Once I had obtained a satisfactory color tone, I converted the whole image back to RGB color (Image>Mode>RGB Color), which enabled me to save the file as a JPEG rather than a *.psd image.

I hope this helps. Thanks for looking!
