Jack McRitchie 150 Posted September 30, 2008 Love the color; the feeling of a Las Vegas postcard circa 1952. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 30, 2008 Yeah, 1952 or 2052, either way it's probably the same. I'm thinking the odds are getting better here as the stock market and banks don't seem so good these days. Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted September 30, 2008 David, tack sharp image. You could see the writing on the wall. Link to comment
dennisdixson 0 Posted September 30, 2008 Slots or ? Oh my, what a rude town. This is an interesting use (or abuse) of perspective. I also like that crane peeking in from the corner of the frame. It typifies the "build it and tear it down again" mentality of Vegas. It may be time to clean your camera sensor. I'm seeing a couple of dust bunnies in the sky. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 30, 2008 Thanks, I think. I've never cleaned a camera sensor. But I'm thinking what you are seeing is a dirty windshield. I was driving when I took this, and the edge of the windshield as well as the radio antenna was visible on the right until I cropped them out. I thought about taking the crane out too, but decided it should stay as I think (as you do) that it is kind of integral to the Vegas identity. I wonder if they aren't shaking a little right now with the economic situation. Link to comment
dennisdixson 0 Posted October 1, 2008 Ah, the old shoot through the windshield trick. ;-) I can never quite make that work as well as this. Link to comment
Todd Kowalski 2 Posted October 1, 2008 Very nice David, I like the huge amount of "empty space", could be telling in more than one way..... Todd Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 1, 2008 I do it too much, and someday I fear it will cost me dearly. As I was traveling through Las Vegas, just before I took this, I had seen two signs with an automatic weapon similar to what I believe an AK 47 looks like on billboards. The caption below the weapon was essentially an invitation to come in and try one out. Sort of like trying on a suit to see how it feels. I'm wondering WTF one would need to try one out for. I'll not go into one of my screeds, but I had seen two of those billboards, and I had whipped my trusty point and shoot out of its holster to be ready to get the next one. Alas there were no more, and I had to settle for this. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 1, 2008 Geez, a rare sighting. Don't see you around much these days. Anyway, nice to hear from you. Link to comment
adan1 0 Posted October 1, 2008 The colors just pop out at you and the way that you captured the gradual intensity of the blue sky makes for a very attractive composition. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted October 1, 2008 Thanks. I thought for a drive by shooting it looked okay. Link to comment
Emmanuel Enyinwa 0 Posted October 2, 2008 One too many "o"s, David. You are the proverbial one eyed cat, documenting the follies of everyday life. How you make it to all these places is beyond me, but somehow you manage to make both the sublime and the ridiculous into, well, the riduculous. The color saturation is nicely done here as well. bosshogg 4 Posted October 3, 2008 It's the good news bad news deal. I've made three unplanned trips halfway across the country in the last 12 months because of family medical emergencies. I am genetically programed to wander if placed behind the wheel of a vehicle. Damn good thing I never became a train engineer! So, having covered about twenty thousand miles on the road since the summer of 2007, I have had the opportunity to get some images. Thanks for your visit. Link to comment
