jkilgo 0 Posted October 2, 2008 Very nice portrait, I like the high ratio lighting...and the empahsis on her eyes is very powerful. The simplicity of this image very elegant and does a wonderful job drawing me in and holding my attention. The lip color and the necklace are nice finishing touches. Well done. Link to comment

MichaelChang 12 Posted October 4, 2008 Okay, Tiffany, I'll critique honestly from a viewer's perspective since I don't (and wouldn't know how to) do indoor controlled portraits. I'll start by saying it's often difficult for me to separate beautiful subjects from beautiful photography; I think there is a tendency to be more forgiving of the photography if the model is stunningly beautiful. Now that that's out of the way, my first impression is that the shot is perhaps a bit too tight, an individual preference issue since I know you prefer tight framing. I also find the camera angle a tad high - the 50% point is just below her lower lip without much in the lower-half frame except the necklace (and without contrasting shadows of her collarbone and upper chest) - causing the image to appear somewhat top biased and overall flat. A little more DoF to put everything in focus might have been my preference, or at least include the two earrings. Her strong features might also benefit from more contrasting side-light biased toward a darker overall image, and a bit more sharpening of the eyes, lips and necklace. Are we still friends? :-) Link to comment
rascal64 9 Posted October 4, 2008 ....so you're telling me that I look fat???? Just kidding...classic female (sometimes male) response to a lot of unrelated comments. Actually...thank you for the very in depth comments. I agree that beautiful subjects can pull off lousy pictures...however the same applies to children in 3rd world countries. I have always shot from the heart and not the head. When I started my biz...I decided to change those priorities and work on my technical end. When I read super technical comments or how-to's however...I simply check out. You are able to translate technical info into very comprehensive speak. I think there is a certain flatness here but it worked for me because that same flatness added to the softness. I love the feedback. Thank you MIchael. Link to comment
