I think cropping is, in part, a way to find a proportionally weighted look. In this tight head-on shot, Collen's facial features becomes the unavoidable focus of attention. In other words, it's not about her clothes, less about her hair, and all about Her, more specifically, her face.

It's unfortunate that women are judged by their appearance and often (subconsciously) compared against perfection, and the departure from the ideal Fibonacci Ratio in her case, I think, makes it difficult to achieve an ideal crop (of a head-on shot) - there will always be something that makes the rendered image look just a bit off. Compare this to her first and third post of Colleen in slight profile, the focus is diverted away from her face because of the wider shot, also a more flattering facial angle to accentuate her beauty.

Or maybe I should just shuddup... :-)

I read that maybe too quickly, and rather than re-reading it for clarity, I'll just ask: does that mean you like this one more, or less than those other shots. Are you suggesting a non-straight on angle is better for her?

My head's still spinning after reading Michael's comment. That's far too esoteric for an old fart like me. I like this crop but think that a little bit more from the top would be better.

haha, me too Jeff, but the more I read it, the more it makes sense. I do know, words aside, I like looking at Colleen's face, profile, or straight on.

Nice portrait...I like the way you've composed this shot...the slightly off balance crop is interesting and really draws attention to her beautiful hair. Nice confident pose and demure expression. Nice capture.

Indeed this one is all about crop - an interesting one, and Michael is right, we have to end up at her face (which is pleasing), the only thing disturbing that meditation is the tattoo on her arm ;-)
