islands in the Georgian Bay.

I like this series very much, because it is so "alive" I feel I can touch it . the technic is perfect as you know how, and the way you have cropped the scene from reality with such a good DOF, is simply beautiful ( the rocks are really framing the frame....). The texture, the brownish color( that can be seen as well in the far end), the light, the " shouting " silent landscape is outstanding. Pristine nature at its best!

There are times that we hold our breath. The world separates into permanent and transient. What appears solid in the moment is revealed to be nothing more than a fluid dream. You've done this with the water. The momentary ripples and splashes have disappeared and melted into history. The rocks remain. I think this is why I view this picture as pictorial stress relief. It's a reminder that the day's stresses, overwhelming as they temporarily seem, will dissipate. A really lovely piece, Gordon. I like these experiments greatly.

Ali;

Thanks... glad you like this one.

Pnina;

These type of photos are the perfect subject for a very wide ( 10 mm ) lens. The greater DOF as well as the way the lens pulls in so much of the scene lends a sense of vastness which suites the actual vastness of this place.. When I am out amongst the islands I feel as if I am sitting in an infinite expanse of Zen garden.

Jeff;

You really hit the nail on the head for me with your comment. Exploring the relationship between the permanent and the transient in photos intrigues and occupies me quite a bit these days.

I find the sensation of time washed away a stress reliever for myself also. I know being out on the bay, rising before sunset and taking these photos is certainly a huge stress reliever for me. It is a nice idea that I may be able to capture and pass along some of that peace and solitude to you and others.
