This composition is excellent as well. The small clump of cattails and large-leafed plants centered really pulls the eye right into the frame. Beautifully symmetrical throughout. Excellent work, Leo; this is very good stuff, and I am tickled to see you out and about. Cheers! Chris

of the two images uploaded it's this one that works best for me. Here your subject is very clear and the reflection merely adds to that while in your other version the reflection almost becomes your main subject. Eitherway, it's a very good photo.

BTW, I rather wrestle a thug on the street than one of your friends in that pond.

Hey thanks for the input as I'm trying to decide which would make the better print. You must have been reading my mind. I like them both for separate reasons but this one does present more of the flora and therefore more of the overall sense of what this area of the Everglades is like. Thanks for taking the time to comment.Ton. And yes I think I would rather be punched in the face by a thug than dragged into the water by a gator and drowned while the he does his "death roll." The gator kills its prey by continuing to roll under water until it drowns. They call this a "death roll."

If a thug uses a stick to poke your eyes out, then give me the gator and its over in a minute. I think this one works better for me, my only nit is the clump of aquatic plants directly in the middle, but you can just as easily disregard that compositional guideline in this image because of it's symmetry. I am happy to see you have finished that beautiful table and hope you are not using it as a tripod platform for great shots like this. I am even happier to see you gracing THIS online platform with images of your home state!

Point taken about the gator. As for the "clump", I believe as you've stated that the overall composition out weighs the centering in this case. The table is off to it's new house and I feel like I lost a close friend. Unlike photography which allows you to always have a copy of your work, wood working when it's done for someone else always evolves the lose of your work. I develop an intimate hands on relationship with my wood working projects which gives me a great feeling of accomplishment and creativity. I will attach a photo of the project that we are speaking about so that others viewers are not left in the dark.

I posted a closeup and more intimate version of this image yesterday

and I would just like an opinion as to which you prefer. This one

includes more flora. Thanks for your opinion.

Leo... I'll vote for this one also and I feel the beautiful reflections offset and disguise any centering of the green plants. You could burn them very slightly to take the edge off and let them blend with the background, but it's very good as is. Mike

Thanks for the comment and I'm not really concerned about the centering of water plants. When I was setting up for this image it was the overall composition that caught my eye and I really don't believe that the composition is weaken in any way by the centering.
