This is very good lighting for a beautiful flower. I like the small DOF too. But I would like to know why you decided to cut part of the rose on the left side. What about an entire flower , but much closer to the left border than the right one in order to avoid the centered subject ?

Just a suggestion!

Thanks for your question, it's a good one. I've attached the "out of the camera" version of this picture so you can see what the rest of the flower looks like. As you can see, there is a really dark petal that is sticking out like a sore thumb and, unfortunately, I didn't notice it when I took the picture because I'm relatively new to flower photography and I just wasn't paying attention.

I liked the lighting enough on the rest of the flower to not scrap the image entirely. I considered cloning the petal out but then the flower looked lopsided. So, I decided to crop it along the edge of the petals that were properly lit and not show the bad petal.

I think it still works but I wanted to throw it up for critique to see what others thought.

Thanks for stopping by!

Natural lighting coming from a window is one of the best to take pictures of flowers, I feel. But then we get into the problem of having part of your subject being too dark. One way to counterbalance this, I learnt, is to provide our subject some reflected light coming from the side opposed to the window. We can get this second source of light by making the main one bounce on the back side of the subject from a large white - or metallic - panel, (a panel wrapped in foil paper), or a mirror standing behind the subject as it faces the window. I hope this can be of any help.
