RickDB 10 Posted September 20, 2008 On the left the remains of an Argentinian refuge hut built in1955. On the right a memorial to Ambrose Morgan, Kevin Ockleton and John Coll, three members of the British Antarctic Survey who took refuge here in 1982 after crossing the pack ice from Faraday Base, just 6 miles away on Argentina Is. According the journal found at the hut, after 30 days (there were supplies for 50 days) they attempted to return across the pack ice, but were never seen again. Link to comment
jayanti 0 Posted September 21, 2008 The emotional value of this document is immense. But even keeping it apart, it is a well composed photograph depicting loneliness and life together. Best regards. Link to comment
RickDB 10 Posted September 21, 2008 ...Not the most photogenic of buildings but juxtaposed with the cross and antarctic scenery makes a poingnant reminder of the unpredictability of nature. Petermann island is a beautiful little islet, only about 1 mile long, I plan to post another picture soon. Thanks for commenting, RickDB Link to comment
dominic_twose 0 Posted December 29, 2008 I loved seeing this photo. I think it captures the cold desolation well. But also - I was at school with Ambrose Morgan, and I was touched to see this memorial to him. Link to comment
