AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted September 20, 2008 This area in south central Alberta is known as Wheatland County, and is nearly as photographically rewarding as the Paoulse. I sometimes wonder why there is often only one large tree left standing in an otherwise wide-open field. Hope you enjoy, Aaron Link to comment
iancoxleigh 0 Posted September 21, 2008 Aaron this is really, really lovely. What a sky! The streaky clouds give great depth to the endlessness of the fields. Link to comment
tomasz_wojciechowski 0 Posted September 22, 2008 I would work on contrasts on the field, using levels adjustments palette. and remove the tree more to the left, it's too close to the centre. Link to comment
ram_n_espelt 0 Posted September 22, 2008 Tiene un gran volumen y dimensión. Las nubes del cielo la completan perfectamente. Muy buena. Saudos Link to comment
lonebearimages 0 Posted September 22, 2008 This is truly quite beautiful. Wonderful composition; and I think the tree's placement is just right as it works very effectively with the diagonals set up by the clouds. The slight warm toning is a nice touch too. Beautiful work, Aaron; this was a solid 7/7 for me. Cheers! Chris Link to comment
AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted September 22, 2008 Just got back from a whirlwind trip to the mountains, so I'll give one quick thanks to everyone who left a comment!Chris, that's funny, your not the first person to suggest that my B+W's online have a tone. It is in fact neutral - at least when I uploaded it. I wonder if I'm doing something that is making it look like that after the fact? What does PS say if you save it and open it?Cheers,Aaron Link to comment
jeff.grant 0 Posted September 23, 2008 Aaron, this is a knockout. All the elements come together beautifully. Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted September 23, 2008 Wow! This is really terrific! I wouldn't normally like the tree in the middle like this, but because of it's juxtaposition under the clouds, I think it's just right. I love the spokes of clouds, the long tree shadow, and the distinct grains of wheat in the FG. It is very Palouse-like, and I'd love to know more exactly where this is. Our daughter will be moving to Calgary with her husband who is from there. My husband and I fell in love with the Palouse area, which we just returned from (I HAVE to get my pictures posted from there). But this would be much closer to Calgary for basically the same type of shots. I love many of the other shots in your portfolio, and I'm marking this as a favorite. I'm also marking you as 'interesting' and will look forward to viewing more of your work as time goes on. Link to comment
mikestacey 0 Posted September 23, 2008 Superb work and the sort of sky most photographers would break a leg for. Link to comment
AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted September 23, 2008 Hi Jeff! Thanks, they really did. I just found an interesting resource that tells me what kind of clouds there are: http://www.windows.ucar.edu/tour/link=/earth/Atmosphere/clouds/cloud_types.html -Strands of high altitude cirrocumulus. Christal: this area is just east of Calgary. It's nothing but huge rolling fields. I have yet to be there at the same time as a really wicked storm, though I have seen some impressive photographs. On those days, the clouds just tumble in off the mountains. Mike, I'm happy it worked out. Check out the website of David H. Collier, in particular his road series. Talk about skies to die for! Cheers All, Aaron Link to comment
AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted September 23, 2008 Christal, I forgot to attach a map. Here you go. Oh, and I just noticed the glaring typo "Paoulse." It was late, what can I say, at least you knew what I was talking about. Link to comment
Christal1664882414 0 Posted September 24, 2008 Thanks so much for the map.....that's real service! :) We've been to Calgary several times now and will be going much more often in the upcoming years, but we've never been east of the city. We'll definitely check out this area. Hey, and if you want 'really wicked' storm clouds, check back shortly on my portfolio. (I haven't loaded them yet). My Palouse and Glacier National Park pictures were taken in horrible weather with some of the most ominous clouds I've seen in a long time. Thanks again, Aaron! Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted September 25, 2008 Excellent shot Aaron. If the tree had been to the right a bit more under the V formed by the clouds you'd have had all 7s on this one. Pretty sweet just as it is though. Nice catch. All the best,Neil Link to comment
dougbrill 0 Posted September 25, 2008 Very Nice! Great composition and use of the clouds. Very nice B&W too. All the best! Link to comment
llgarcia 1 Posted October 18, 2008 I missed this one early on but this goes to 'my favorites' list outright. Congratulations for a nicely composed dramatic and so detailed landscape. Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted October 25, 2008 A rare occasion, well captured ! I think you arranged the best possible composition with the available elements. B&W quality is outstanding, hats off. Link to comment
jana 1 Posted January 15, 2009 Such a wonderful image. The sky shows off a bit.. Well composed and the choice of B&W is just right, cheers Jana Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted January 30, 2009 Unusual sky Aaron, creates" silent" drama with the horizontal FG and lonely tree. Very nice texture and B/W choice. Link to comment
