knobby6 1 Posted September 17, 2008 This is a rather large crop, but it is unusual enough that I though I would post it. I have never heard of ospreys taking birds, but apparently they do. I saw him nail the grebe and then lose it because of harassment from the gulls. Link to comment
nhut-nguyen 0 Posted September 17, 2008 I guess they say Osprey's diet consists of 99.9% and not 100% of fish is true. Is this the same bird that we've seen lately? He must be really really hungry. Link to comment
knobby6 1 Posted September 18, 2008 I think this is one of the 2 that have been hunting there. The other one has a big split in his tail. Link to comment

paul_de_ley 21 Posted September 19, 2008 Maybe grebe really tastes fishy? And were the gulls actually trying to steal its catch or just mobbing out of general principle? Great catch of rare behavior Monte! Link to comment
knobby6 1 Posted September 19, 2008 I think they were mobbing, just because thats what they do. The grebe may have been diving underwater and he thought it was a fish. Lot of maybes here... Link to comment

ericgerberphoto 0 Posted September 19, 2008 That's unusual behavior, I've never seen them catch anything except fish. Link to comment
