adan1 0 Posted September 26, 2008 It's a beautiful capture with the last intense rays of light caressing the red column and enveloping the surroundings with a fiery glow. The dramatic sky and mountain in the background, in addition to the classical structure in the front, breaks the impression that this is just another big modern city. Link to comment
AJHingel 127 Posted October 18, 2008 Adan, Taipei is in fact just another big city and not one of the most easy to visit as photographer. Where Hong Kong for example has photographical scenes on any street corner, Taipei has much less to offer - or I did not see it. This shot is taken from my hotel room but it lasted 15 minutes and the rest of the time the weather was dull. Link to comment
arthale1 0 Posted August 3, 2010 Sometimes one image is worth more because of its rarity. This is wonderful and special, I will bet that after time it will give you a different perspective on the city because of this one shot. Photography is the art of having the right equiptment and skill set coming together at exactly the right moment and to that premiss this is testament. Link to comment
AJHingel 127 Posted August 4, 2010 Thanks Art, you are right that this photo plays a special role in my mind when I think about Taipei. In fact if you look into my folder on the city you will see that I actually found a series of shots that I found worthwhile. Thanks for your kind comments. Link to comment
gungajim 75 Posted August 4, 2010 Nice capture of the mood of the city. Did you make it to the top of the 101? Link to comment
AJHingel 127 Posted August 4, 2010 No, I did not go, because I have the experience that the subject matters that counts can be shot from the ground! The higher to come, the less you see!. I shot the tower of course as above. Link to comment
JDMvW 63,915 Posted February 18, 2012 Again, the thumbnails at the bottom of the discussions have paid off. Really nicely composed in my opinion, and the light is lovely. Link to comment
lupo_lobo 0 Posted March 29, 2013 I also spied this via the thumbnails at the bottom of a page. I have often thought that Taiwan should be one of my destinations and you have reenforced that thought. The light has an appeal and your framing works quite well. Link to comment
AJHingel 127 Posted April 1, 2013 Lupo, you should definitely go. Taipei might not be the most attractive city if you compare it to Hongkong or Shanghai, but if you take your time the city hides many interesting local quarters and especially of course a very beautiful region around it.The light of my shot here is maybe special and rare because it is the light just after one of the major hurricanes that closed down the city and the Island for several days and caused havoc in the mountains around. It is shot from one of the rooms of the most spectacular hotels in the city, the Grand Hotel (worth a visit, for sure). Go and see the national museum just behind the hotel (a mile or two) which has one of the best collections of Chinese artifacts. Link to comment
Matt Laur 2,201 Posted June 26, 2013 Nice! If this lasted for only 15 minutes, I'm glad you were there, Anders. Link to comment
