This image is part of a series of 12 that I recently used in a large

format calendar on Africa. I'm proud to announce that this calendar

was rewarded 1st Prize in the International Photography Awards (IPA)

last week.

It was shot in Madagascar just after sunrise. I had set up my tripod

and basically just waited for someone or something to appear in the frame.

I'm usually not a big fan of this kind of distortion, but in this case

I thought it nicely emphasized the height of the trees.

Congratulations and well deserved. This is another outstanding image from an outstanding photographer.

Honestly, this is undoubtedly the best non black and white shot of the Baobabs I've ever seen.

I think it's all very complimentary, but I can see what you mean about the perspective. The colours and tree placement works really well. I really wish the digital sensor on any camera wasnt so harsh with the sun, it's something I hate in my own shots. Its the only thing I like about film!

The human element is a very worthy addition that seems to add a surreal touch and the place itself is nothing short of a photographer's dream. You were rewarded with the patience and vision required for the shot and the final result is very dramatic. My only nit is the over exposed area. A soft neg film such as Portra would have been perfect.

Fantastic image in every respect. Was it really published in NG?

I saw these types of trees on the "Planet Earth" blue ray DVD. I thought they were indigenous to Madagascar.
