Hehe Nancy, I had just commented on another image moments ago, and said that it kinda was reminiscent of the Sino-Japanese calligraphy style of art/imagery. I see shades of the same here too. Neat image!

It seems very well done for what it is. It's not really my thing, though.

It takes us to the extreme end of the graphic scale in terms of photography and I tend to find it cold, lacking in context, atmosphere, surrounding. That is simply a matter of taste and doesn't reflect negatively on the image-maker. In an abstract sort of way, it almost reminds me of dancing musical notes on a staff. It doesn't hold my attention for long.

P.S. Looking through Nancy's portfolio, this one seems somewhat experimental or at least stands out, and for that, I applaud her.

I have been following Nancy's photos for years, both here and on Face book. Her bird photos are the best around and her understanding of nature make her photos even better. When I first saw this photo I thought, another interesting Barrett bird photo, but I as I looked closer, I saw they were plants. Nancy had grown over the years and has become a photographer who's photos I love to look for, this one is no exception. Congrats on the POW

I do like it.
It's a nice composition, and an effective version of a class of photographs that trade on contrast and form.

I have to confess also partly because this weed was a component of Archaic peoples' diet in the wetter times in the Great Basin area (Buffy sees something interesting...).

Until I read JDM and realised it was plant growth with water reflection, I was seeing an abstract rock band image :-) I like and appreciate that it is not completely black and white.

Ditto, I agree to that , and as we have been asked to evaluate this one , sorry , but this one does not do anything for me.

The simplicity and overall composition is commendable. I think this photograph would make a nice addition to a doctor's office. It is calming. Other than that, I have nothing much else to say about this photograph. It is not the sort of image that excites me.

I like the strong graphic approach. With the right composition, the images can perform a visual dance of shape and line that can be very beautiful. I just don't think this is the best composition of those elements (which is easy to say from my armchair). It starts out well left-to-right in a interesting frieze but gets a bit busy in the middle and clumpy on the right side.
It takes a good eye to see the shape and line of the subject beyond the subject and Nancy did a fine job of isolating these interesting shapes. Sometimes your point of view and the natural composition order works well for you and sometimes it doesn't. But the technique and effort is a good one.

The image shows a willingness of the photographer to see something that is not conventional and, by suppressing the hint of water or the other natural environment, to provide an enigmatic image. But there is simply too much subject matter to interest me and too much of that is overlapping without aesthetic cause. I would suggest that Nancy consider adopting her very good approach and try to isolate a lesser number of such subject elements such that the final image (the subject) might have more visual compositional or emotive sense than it has here (for me at least, as a viewer).
