Some stuff I shot last year and never had the chance to upload. As always I am looking for ways to improve my photography so all comments and tips are appreciated. Shot as JPG, color space Adobe converted to sRGB - really not sure if this makes any difference. Some dodging and burning was done. I was standing on a bridge with manfrotto tripod and Nikon d70 with 18-70 mm kit lens. I spent about 20 minutes here shooting different perspectives as the light changed.

Stunning, Tony. The oranges and yellows of the turning trees is wonderful against the slate and smoke of the river. It gives the impression of fire rushing to be quenched at the shoreline.

Thanks for the kind comment. Not sure if it is a lack of confidence or seeing other works here on PN but I constantly search to identify where I can improve. In this case I wonder if i should have climbed down from the bridge and got down to the water level for a different image. I did not but should I pass this way again or encounter a similar situation, I might try and get down to water level for more images. best regards,

Wonderful composition!! Nice play of light on the trees and the mist on the water adds to the surrealism!

Katherine said it right - this is like a painting - and a really fine use of chiaroscuro. I'd hang this on my wall in a second! Interesting that you brought up the difference between the Adobe RGB (1998) and sRGB color spaces. I have been doing a lot of research on this; and there really is a difference. I can really notice the difference in what I've worked on in CS3, and then what is 'saved for web and devices' and posted to, for example, PN. The sRGB color space always seems a bit off, a little flat, and not quite as dynamic. Anyhow, very nicely done, Toney; and thanks for sharing with all of us. Cheers! Chris

Your comments are always appreciated and good to hear from you. Maybe when you get a chance, perhaps you can share a summary of your findings on color space. Some forum stuff is a bit confusing - since I got my D300 this year I have been shooting RAW and sRGB - perhaps it is time to take the same scene - one sRGB and the other Adobe. maybe it does not make a difference when you shoot raw. I took some time off this morning to roam around the country side - specifically a "McGill University" nature center in St.Hillaire QC which is a relatively short drive from my home. I am off site at the moment and have to get back to an assignment. Will be back later tonight.

Raw doesn't have a colour space, it's technically black and white until the raw converter does it's job, so it depends on what colour space you have your raw converter setup for. I do all my work in ProPhoto colour space, after alterations I save as TIFF in that space too, but then I convert to sRGB and 8bit before saving for web. Selecting a colour space in camera only takes effect if shooting in JPEG.

Anyway back to the image, great light and the mist adds atmosphere. Good stuff.
