guillelobera 0 Posted September 14, 2008 Just outside the medieval village of Ainsa there is a shrinecommemorating the battle won by the Christians against the Muslims(8th Century). According to legend the christian forces were by faroutnumbered by their Muslim adversaries. They overcame their enemiesthanks to the valour of their leader, Garci Jimenez, and to theappearance of a blazing red cross in an oak tree which was seen as agood omen and a sign that God was fighting on their side against theinfidel. As testimony to this legendary occurrence the oak tree and the redcross appear on both the Sobrarbe and the Aragonese coat of arms.Today still celebrates the victory of christian troops over theMuslims in this fields on september 14 and by representation of LaMorisma festival in L'Ainsa.
