tonmestrom 4 Posted September 15, 2008 while this truly is a very good photo I wouldn't have uploaded them at the same time because I guess most people will compare them. This has so much going for it, lighting, composition and so on, which are near perfect that it would be a shame if that would be lost out of sight because of you're more detailed shot. leo burkey 0 Posted September 15, 2008 Good point but I believe that it's a bit late now but I do appreciate you looking out for me. Thanks Ton. Link to comment
rbanfield 0 Posted September 16, 2008 I like! The warm colors of the trees, thank the rain gods for getting them soak just before we got there, and the white of White Mountain makes for a great contrast. Beautiful work and really wonderful detail on that Bristlecone...Lefty Link to comment
leo burkey 0 Posted September 16, 2008 As these ancient Bristlecone Pines age they lose most of their bark revealing the beautiful yellows and browns that you see here. They colors became even more vivid as rain and hail had soaked them just minutes before I took this photograph. Some of these trees are over 4000 years old and are magnificent to see. Link to comment

lonebearimages 0 Posted September 19, 2008 Somehow, I missed this gem when it was first posted. It is interesting, just the other day I had an involved conversation with Ian Cox-Leigh about difficult subjects to photograph; and we both concluded that the Great Basin bristlecone pines are difficult to shoot (I also stated that I thought Mono Lake was pretty damned difficult too! ;>). It is only after several trips up there that I am starting to see these unique trees ina different "light." You have done just such a job here with this photograph, Leo; an excellent composition and spot-on exposure. I think the careful blend of intimate detailed portrait of the tree combined with the sense of scale and depth at alpine elevations is quite remarkable. Nicely done, Leo! Cheers!
