petemillis 0 Posted September 8, 2008 Gord, It grabbed my attention and made me chuckle! I'm trying to closely examine what's in the reflection but I find the breasts to be a bit too distracting :) Definitely a well spotted scene with an interesting combination of lines from the pavement and the joins in the manequin - it gives the appearance of a picture that has been cut and then pieced together again. Nice one. Pete Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 8, 2008 Hi and thanks. Yeah it caught my attention also, as I was walking down the street. I too liked the way the cracks in the side walk intersected with the cracks in the mannequin.Once you get past the mannequin the refection is of a street festival and jazz fest going on under the tent you can see reflected in the window. Vida was giving me grief while I was composing this.... ..something about not wanting to be associated with a guy who gets his camera out when he sees a disrobed mannequin. I showed her the image today and she said " nice bicycle" Link to comment
katzpjs 50 Posted September 9, 2008 Tell Vida to stick with what she knows and to just let you be creative. I am so glad that you did not get to this location a day later, who knows what you would have found. But as it is I am very envious of you for having this image when I don't. This it the type of thing that I am always on the lookout for. You get a 7/7 from me on this one and I hate you for having it when I don't. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 9, 2008 I hear there is never much going on the day after the "last day" . Maybe you should join the P.Nut ' We Hate Gord ' anti-fan club. I've been told its quite popular. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted September 9, 2008 Where does the Anti-Gord fan club meet? I hear their lodge is full of pretty photos of deer with long eyelashes looking wistfully at oversaturated sunsets. I think you've caught a great one. A "half-off" sale becomes and "everything-off" peepshow. And the poor mannequin has nothing left to lose. The bicycle is a nice touch. A get-away car for the desperate. I hope she wears a helmet. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 9, 2008 She is intesected by reflections, partly "leaning" on the bikes.... her face are triangled.... partly hidden, waiting for the last day....being naked I wonder what is she selling the last day...;-)) Very Gordonesque....Interesting,well composed in B/W. I like the black BG behind her body .and the gray textured rest. As a matter of fact the illusion of reflections are always creating two realitis really, the solid and the elusive one. gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 9, 2008 Jeff; The meetings apparently are clandestine. I have it on good authority that along with the fawning fawns, the walls are papered with images of puppy dogs running through fields of daisies, chasing butterflies, under blue skies with rainbows. Squashed rodents are strictly forbidden ! Pnina; I think we share a fascination for combining the real and reflected worlds. Funny that you should label this Gordonesque. It is your work with windows and street scenes, along with the images of Jeff, Jack, David, Shawn and Ton that have trained my eye to seek out these kind of quirky juxtapositions when I'm out on the street :-) Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 9, 2008 Gord, I think that we learn from each other, and it is a very good way to widen our horizons. ;-)) Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted September 10, 2008 Those meetings sound so nice. Please let me know when everyone plans to convene. I'll throw on some khakis and bring some egg salad sandwiches, decaf coffee, and raisin cookies. Mmmm. Raisin cookies. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 10, 2008 Those meetings are so nice and very sweet. Consider yourself invited ... the raisin cookies clinched the deal because they are so nice and so very sweet. Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted September 10, 2008 those meetings far by bike? I would very much like to attend the next one and nominate this one and Jeff's electrified Jesus as couple of the year because they are complementary in so many ways. The rather somber feel of the outside fits in real nice with the conveyed message and the grainy feel adds to this even more. Actually this must have been the very last day indeed since they even ripped of the clothes of this one mannequin. Ever see a bunch of women go wild in a sale? I have and it was not a pretty sight ;-) Lastly you can tell Vida she's right. It's indeed a nice bicycle, maybe even a Koga Miyata. Good one Gord. I really like this one Link to comment
jokeweier 0 Posted September 11, 2008 Form the other side of the planet, great shot. With regards Link to comment
janc 0 Posted September 11, 2008 Hi Gordon! Intriguing and interesting shot! Last day before LHC start? or last day before this shot disappear? :-) I prefer the second possibility. We can see her lips but not her eyes, the union lines on the floor and the manequin, the reflected bike soul and that wounded finger in the left hand of manequin, all that make an interesting shot, I will come back to see it after a couple of days. My best regards. Link to comment
gordonjb 10,860 Posted September 13, 2008 Ton; The next one is right around the corner from your place , you'll barely have time to warm up the bike seat:-) Glad you like this one. You know that I am in awe of your street shooting. This was a rare opportunity for a country boy such as myself. I do not often get out of the woods these days. I have less than fond memories of my mother, my aunts and my grandmother out shopping for bargains with me as a young boy in tow. Frightening only begins to describe it. I'll tell Vida she made a lucky guess with the bicycle. Joke; Greetings from this side of the globe back at you. It is wonderful to garner a lovely comment from a fine street shooter such as yourself. Jose Angel; Thanks for such an in depth analysis I enjoyed reading your interpretation of the scene.
