Cupids Seem About to Miss Their Mark

johncrosley

Nikon D300, Nikkor 17~55 mm f 2.8 E.D. full frame, no selections, thus no manipulations (contrast, brightness carefully worked on from NEF through JPEG.) Full frame, and no, I don't feel like cropping the top.

These auto cupids (check their arrows out -- they're auto keys) seem

about to miss their mark; none seems to be aiming at this large woman

as she passes by, (part of a wedding party no less). Your ratings and

critiques are invited and most welcome. If you rate harshly or very

critically, please submit a helpful and constructive comment; please

share your superior photographic knowledge to help improve my

photography. Thanks! Enjoy! John

What's the key to a person's heart? I wonder. The predominance of blue and brown tones play an interesting role in your composition. The brown buildings on each side in addition to the blue clothing at the bottom and the sky on top "frame" this scene in an unique way. Your angle taken from below forces us to look at the shirt which then introduces us to the painted wall in the background. It acts as a prelude in a way. Perhaps these cupids are not pointing at people but at cars.

Of course, Adan W., the billboard is for a prominent car dealership - and a fanciful one at that.

These are the keys to one's heart and his cars.

Of course, since they are cupids aiming these 'arrows/keys' one might hope that one might be struck by a love of his cars, or at least something.

But, alas, this large woman is not the object of their aim, it appears. She's part of a wedding party, but the wedding party is elsewhere (and not able to be photographed, unfortunately, ina way that was worthwhile -- all as they passed in front of me after parking their vehicles.

I could have trimmed or cropped this one, but like the full-frame capture better -- it's just a little surreal, which is why I posted it and why I like it. Also, I like posting some things like this where there'a a large, semi-amorphous object in the frame which helps focus attention on a prominent background as here.

And of course, the colors, as you note, play a prominent role, and as I increased the contrast somewhat, the sky darkened to a deeper blue. I selected her mantle (coat) so that it did not fade into total blackness and adjusted it separately. So if the photo is marked 'unmanipulated' I have made a mistake -- that is a 'manipulation' under the rules.

This took considerable post-processing and to your got not one comment and in the interim I've made a posting I spent 15 minutes on, including cropping and resizing on, and it's getting huge ratings.

Just goes to show you, it's always something.

Thanks for commenting, as always.
