Well, welcome to my neck of the woods! Beautiful photograph of Lone Pine Peak and Mount Whitney. Aren't the Alabama Hills something special? I think I'd be tempted to rotate this to level the fore-slope, just to make it easier on the eye, even though the outwash plain does slope down towards Lone Pine. Nicely seen, James! Cheers! Chris

Beautiful color and composition. I'll have to disagree with Chris on the rotation here. It doesn't look off-keel to my eyes, and the slope of the plain seems nicely communicated. I would like to see the shadowed areas lighten up just a bit, but otherwise, this is fine work.

Thanks for the critiques. The dull foreground does bother me- I did use an ND grad but the whole valley was in shadow. As for rotating, I did think try it but the peaks looked off. Chris - you're lucky to have this as a backyard! The whole area is beautful; I was just passing through but I'd love to visit again.

I stand corrected on the proposed rotation. Upon further reflection, John's point is spot-on; this looks right, and in fact, is how it is. Interesting, this time I actually see the tiny bit of the Whitney Portal Road in the middle-center. So, this was taken up the road a mile or two west of the Alabama Hills, wasn't it? Gotta say that sure is some good glow on Lone Pine on the left. Cheers! Chris
