Close Encounter

This was shot at 100mm and has not been cropped....I'm guessing 10-15

feet away. I was sitting on the ground shooting her as she walked by.

I didn't realize until I saw the picture that she was giving me the eye.

Thanks everyone. I was with a guide and four other people. Our guide told us there's not a single report of a brown bear attacking a group of three or more people that are within 3 feet of each other in North America, so I figured my odds were pretty good. The blood is from a salmon she just ate.

Another great shot Scott. This must be at Hallo Bay in Katmai. Truly one of those special places, glad you could share with us. Keep them coming.

10-15 feet is too close even if you have bars between you! Are you still having nightmares? Excellent.

I had my camera between us looking through the viewfinder almost the whole time, so there was nothing to worry about.:) She did get closer on another pass by us and was walking right at me, so the guide had to step in between us and hold out an arm and tell her to move on, in a really sweet voice. That was a little more hairy, but again I had my camera in between us.

One of the people in my bear shooting group just got home from his trip to Alaska and sent me this pic a few minutes ago that was taken a few seconds after the one I posted. That's me on the ground.
