Nice front shot, John. Very attractive the cambered road you show. I can't figure out your position but I guess it's turn 5a or turn 8. However, well done - with compliments and regards, El

It is turn 5A. I call it Moss corner but after 11 years of ALMS at Mosport I just found out this year that it is actually 5A. I'm not as big a race fan as I am a photography fan!

My vantage point here is half way up the path/hill beyond the emergency response parking spot more towards 5B. By remaining seated and shooting through the spaces in the fence I can get this particular view right through under the cars as they come over the crest of the hill. I feel the natural camber of the corner adds interest to the photo as well as maintaining the integrity of the environment.

The first ALMS was held before the reconstruction of the corner. In that year I was able to stand closer to the track and about 5 feet lower in elevation so a similar shot to this did not even have the wall in the background, just the trees. In my portfolio you can see a dark shot of the Panose P1 car from 1998 taken from this earlier position.

After the reconstruction when I could no longer stand that close to the track, and before last year I shot from between the TV camera and marshall's stand. Of course last year they put the catch fence in which ruined that vantage point but I managed to find this even better one!

I stick with this corner because I know it and because the cars are travelling at a much reduced speed which I find easier for shooting. I have considered other areas of the track but as soon as you give up a spot on the fence you never get it back.
