bosshogg 4 Posted September 3, 2008 County Courthouse, Bon Homme County, South Dakota Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 3, 2008 David, this is again very americana.....Eiffel immigrated to the plains.... I wonder what Eiffel would have said of the "travel"...;-)) At least the sky are having a beautiful blue color and clouds. Did you say it is a court house? if it is ,the sky looks like a "justice weight" one side (L), is cloud heavier than the R one ... ( joking of course). I hope you are well and busy. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 3, 2008 Not that I pay much attention, but my fellow Pnetters really hated this one based on lack of comments (only yours, which is worth a lot to me) and the truly fabulous ratings. This is a county courthouse in South Dakota. I'm assuming they had some connection to the French based on the name of the county, which is, "Bon Homme." What the connection is, I have no idea. But the idea of a mini Eiffel Tower in this locale is a stretch of the imagination. There is not much here (speaking of the whole geographical area) that would cause one to think of Europe, much less Paris. So, I was more than a little incredulous to spot this while taking a detour off of the highway. On the other hand, we should give credit for a fabulously unique flagpole. Viva la France. Hope Lacoste sees this. Link to comment
giovanni1971 0 Posted September 3, 2008 Very interesting, I like your form to document your country. For me, I am italian is all so different. I was to Mexico for three months and I had a lots of interesting situacion to take photos. Salutos.......Giovanni Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 3, 2008 Thanks amigo. I have yet to find an imitation of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, or The Colosseum, but when I do, I'll be posting a pic of it. :) Link to comment
tonmestrom 4 Posted September 3, 2008 BS, they already gave you the statue of liberty ;-) Actually I think it's quite funny so out of place as this looks. You sure know how to find them. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 3, 2008 If the Neocons and rabid evangelical nationalists in this country have their way, it will be shipped back to those bastards. They'll probably demand they pay the freight too. Come on over, and we'll go find some more of this stuff. It might be a good change of pace for a cultured opinionated brash Dutchie. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted September 3, 2008 Complete with Old Glory sagging from the top. Amusing to say the least. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 3, 2008 From what I saw this place was no Paris on the plains. How do we come up with this kitsch? Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted September 4, 2008 Well, you know one thing, when they put this up they weren't viewing it as kitsch. To someone it was a grand idea and the dedication was probably celebrated with fireworks and a picnic in the town square. And the mayor gave a fine speech. And the volunteer firemen presented a hook and ladder display. And everyone clapped and had a good time except Charlie Duncan who got drunk and broke his leg trying to scale the tower. We are really such a comical people, we Americans. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 4, 2008 I'm thinking of moving to Japan. There is not more sanity, but it will at least be a different insanity. Link to comment
adan1 0 Posted September 4, 2008 The two of you in Japan. That is going to be the next best thing after Batman & Robin. This is a charming interpretation of a famous landmark in my opinion. So what if it is a bit kitsch? It's an honest attempt and it should be appreciated as such. Through your pictures I am being exposed to another aspect of this country that I probably would have never embarked to see on my own. Thanks for the road trip. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 4, 2008 Thanks good buddy. And, if I had my way, I'd be out on the road right now taking more captive photos to bring back to you. Although, if I could afford it I'd be delighted to go over to Jack's stomping grounds to observe the master in action. Link to comment
bjcarlton 0 Posted September 4, 2008 El Cajon has a fake Pisa tower. Used to be called the Leaning Tower of Pizza, but soon became, and for decades since, has been the Yogurt Mill. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 4, 2008 Well come on. Let's get a pic of that for my friend Giovanni. Link to comment

dmo_galleries_chicago_phot 0 Posted September 23, 2008 Great title. I've been to Paris, Illinois, and they don't have any towers this grand. Paris, France? Well, let's call it a tie. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted September 23, 2008 Laurent, a belated thanks for the comment. Ton, I didn't feel that you would be offended. I think you are kind of proud of those attributes. Doug, alas, I'm thinking I will never get closer to the real thing than this. Link to comment
