amalsircar 2 Posted September 2, 2008 Fabulous shot, Birte. It will soon be selected for National Geographic Magazine. Reminds me of Steve McCurry' famous shot of Afghan girl. Suffering has made their eyes glow with wrath for humanity. Link to comment

vicenteconcha 8 Posted September 2, 2008 It's really heartbreaking that these beautiful eyes, they can wind up as a consequence of wars. The innocent are always the most disadvantaged. Max anon. Best wishes. Vicente. Link to comment

tomfawlsphotography 0 Posted September 3, 2008 ,,,but a bit of a biased message, wouldn't you say? Under the Taliban, this young girl may or may not still have been orphaned, but she definitely would have faced a life of persecution and fear simply because she is female. And don't forget, under the previous regime, you would not even have been allowed to capture this image, let alone try to get it published! Link to comment

stupski 0 Posted September 7, 2008 Birte, coming back to this because your opening comment doesn't feel right to me. In fact, Afghanistan has been involved in Civil Wars and war with the Russians since World War II. The First Phase: The Saur Revolution and Soviet Occupation (1933-1979); the Second Phase: From the Geneva Accords to the Mujahidin's Civil War (1988-1994); and The Third Phase: The Taliban's Conquest of Afghanistan (1993-present). Here's the link: http://www.hrw.org/backgrounder/asia/afghan-bck1023.htm . Please read it and note that others get more credit than the U.S. for this misery in the last century. Link to comment
