michaelhills 0 Posted August 30, 2008 Yes. No... in that order :) What is the most detracting for me is the extreme white regions in her eyes and also the fact that is showing too much white... in other words, she is looking away at too extreme an angle. Does this make sense? M :) Link to comment
mikeoday 0 Posted August 30, 2008 Great make-up and skin tones, lovely soft light, pleasing background and a nice pose combine to produce a very nice image. I do agree with Michael that it would be improved if your model were looking just a little more to her left. Well done on a beautiful portrait! All the best, Mike Link to comment
villalobosleo 5 Posted August 30, 2008 It is not too pink, the colors are great, and doesn't matter that her eyes are looking in other direction, I believe makes her more interesting, it is a beautiful portrait and model, about the hand, doesn't look bad but perhaps is better without it, well done anyway. dougityb 0 Posted August 31, 2008 ok, thanks! I'll make a notation about her eyes and keep a look out so it doesn't happen again. I'm not too bothered by them, but I can see how the overall effect would be improved if they were a little more centered. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted August 31, 2008 I do not like it, sorry. :-( I can see why you were interested in this pretty fascinating expression - some sort of lonely moment with herself. But I think you really grabbed that moment from a bad viewpoint. For shots like this, I personally believe you need to be far with a very long lens, and end up with a completely blurry and non-distractive background, while catching at least 3 quarters of the face, so that the eyes - the soul - can really be seen. And now... I'll be rushing to this other portrait of her that I just saw in a glance, and which wooowed me completely...! :-) Best regards. Link to comment
dougityb 0 Posted August 31, 2008 your disagreement with this shot is understandable, Marc. I was on the fence about it. Out of all we shot, it made it through the first edit, but I was undecided when I went through the second edit and more or less rejected it, but then went back the other night to verify whether or not there were any shots from this location that were worth posting. I figured, what the heck, and went ahead and worked it. There are several things I don't like so much, mostly the frizzy clipping of her hair, but also the location of her hand. I don't mind the eyes at all, and I also like the emotion. If this was all I had from our session, I might be upset, but the other portraits turned out so well that this one's failings don't bother me. Link to comment
jkilgo 0 Posted September 1, 2008 This is good, but unfortunately her averted gaze diminishes her most notable asset....those beautiful piercing eyes. Link to comment
GerrySiegel 868 Posted September 23, 2008 I agree more or less with Marc. However it is an expressive and lovely softness that appeals to me in outdoor shots---which are the secret to many great portraits. As you know I always find the background competes with the power of the face even when it is blurry unless it is very much darker or very much lighter. Hope that makes sense. When it is the same value and color value as the subjects skin it does detract. As to her eyes, just a wee too much iris to the corner, but that is a nitpic. Overall a comfortable looking face. You have a good touch Doug that I am sure shows in your variations with each model. Best.gs Link to comment
