I think this is an excellent portrait. I like the Karsh-like lighting and the simple posing. I also like that you didn't feel like you had to blur every detail in the woman's complexion. Of course, at her age, she won't need much help! The light on the nails adds character, in my opinion, although some may think they distract from the woman's face. Perhaps she's proud of her manicure and wants the nails prominently displayed.

 

All in all, I don't know how to make the photo any more powerful. 7/7

Interesting portrait....technically very good, the tones and textures are just amazing...as is the composition...the subject...hmmm, I have to think about this....very evocative. Nicely captured.

This shot is about the nails, whether that was the goal or not. There is just no avoiding being brought up short by the nails,
