Whatcom peak as shot from my high camp during an 80-mile backpack

through the North Cascades, Washington, at sunrise. A long exposure

streaks the clouds and colors. Thanks for commenting.

I love the outdoors, the mountains especially. I grew up in some of the most rugged mountains - the Sierra Nevadas in Northern California. This scene took me home for a minute. It is wonderful. I can easily conjure up the feeling of sitting there, the smell of clean clear air and pine trees; the crisp air - all of it. Thanks for that feeling. I only wish the photo was larger, this large high resolution monitor does make them shrink. Thanks for sharing.

Another Masterpiece to add to your extensive Collection Rich saturated colors and unique Sky as well as nice reflections make this an Excellent Image !

The technical aspects of this landscape are excellent. You handled the range of illumination quite well in ways that elevate this landscape above what an ordinary photograph would show. For example, the large knoll to left somewhat blocks the free flow of the sunset beyond, but you have balanced the light expertly. I know you expertly use GND filters, but this scene makes it difficult to use filters alone. A layering of exposures would add artifacts, so your technique is interesting. You know your work inspires. Cheers, Marc. -K

Sounds like you had one nice trip up here (npn). The motion in the clouds lead you straight to the mountain. As usual, beautiful. Cliff

Wow Marc! This is beyond exceptional. I can only imagaine the detail in the native res. Right now I would have to say my favorite image of your portfolio.

Beautiful, Marc. This is one of your trademark looks. Good job previsualizing this based on the direction of the cloud movement. The pink reflected off the foreground rocks is a nice touch. Did you happen to get an exposure of this composition at a fast enough shutter speed to "freeze" the clouds? This is purely an artistic opinion of course, but for this particular composition, that version might be equally, if not more, powerful. Look forward to seeing more from your recent trip.

I'm just shaking my head...........yet another mind-blowing image. It had to be an overall awesome photo experience as the conditions for such a dramatic shot were just perfect.

Marc, this is beyond mind-blowing. 'nuff said. Your ability to regularly produce pieces of work like this is an inspiration.

Wow!

This is a fabulous capture of some breathtaking scenery. A beautifully balanced composition caught in perfect conditions.

I bought a MkIII myself a few weeks ago and I now instantly recognise the almost 3D quality it gives to rocks and other highly detailed areas. The distinctive colours and subtle shadow detail suits an image like this perfectly, even at this size I feel I could reach into the screen and wet my hand in the Loch. I can imagine that effect in the large print is just mind blowing!

Another truly incredible one from the master! What amazing colors!

You are a great source of inspiration to us all. We aspire to capturing just a little bit of what you have. I recently rented the 16-35 F2.8L II and found it to be an extremely sharp lens. I hope you do not mind me asking a few questions:

So you used 6 stops of GND here? Was this hard or soft?

Do you use glass or gel filters and how do you keep them from getting scratched?

Very best wishes and the deepest respect

Yinka

Drop dead gorgeous shot, as usual, Marc. You've set the bar high and keep clearing it. Well done. Looks like mighty fine country too.

Beautiful shot, love the warm light hitting the mountains and color in the sky. Like the long exposure that shows movement in the clouds and the symtry between shape of the mountain that is also in the clouds above it, well done!
