An absolutely gorgeous Spanish mission outside of Tucson. Alas, they had lots of scaffolding around the outside of the building for repairs. So I had to attempt to shoot creatively. It's kind of like people who will only ever get to Washington, DC once in their lives and arrive to find their favorite monument encased in scaffolding. It HAS to be done periodically. But it can certainly ruin a once-in-a-lifetime trip.... (sigh....) Your thoughts?

Congratulations, Lou Ann! Your attempt to shoot creatively succeeded definitely, bringing this fine image. Tone is gorgeous, lone bird on the top is the icing on the cake. Thank you for sharing!

Very beautiful composed, the light on the top of this withe church in contrast with this dark sky is wonderful, best regards

I really want you to look at this photograph; study it, and realize that what you've done is pretty darn close. Yes, Ansel's composition and exposure are perhaps a touch "richer", but you have done a terrific job with your composition and tonal range. To be honest, I actually wish the bird were not there; and I'd have cloned the lightening rod out; but it is what it is. Well done!

Here's Ansel's photograph: http://www.afterimagegallery.com/adamsmission.htm

If you really want to make black and whites; spend a lot of time with Adams', "Examples: The Making of Forty Photographs." Look at his comps and tonal ranges. Keep up the good work, and have a great Thanksgiving Day; and Go Buffalo Bills! Cheers! Chris

Fabulous! Thanks, Chris, for the input and the link - his shot rocks! And, yes, I should have thought to clone out the bird and the lightning rod. Perhaps if I have this printed... Thank you, also, for your holiday wishes. I hope that your Thanksgiving was lovely as well!
