Rye Harbor - Storm Surge

harrylichtman

2 vertical images were used to create the square format. I was experimenting with the shift function of the lens to create a close -up perspective that benefited from a big, bold sky. Normally, a wide angle lens would have emphasized the foreground and the background would be minimized, especially shooting down on the boats. Shortly before sunset as the clouds were building and the light was getting great, a couple wheeled one of the boats out of my composition and headed out to the harbor. I repositioned the closest boat in hopes of saving the composition. The peach colored clouds happened to match the boat and helped tie the image together. The funky sky color was a result of the storm clouds and rainbow coinciding with sunset.

Very cool shot, and some really awesome lighting conditions. Gorgeous sky, and that touch of rainbow is pretty much worth the price of admission on its own. Maybe a little busy in the FG, but not a big deal. Nice work, Amigo! Cheers! Chris

Thanks for the feedback. Chris - I agree that ther is a lot going on with the boats. The composition was more harmonious before some folks took a boat from in front of me. It was behind the grey rock in the foreground, and the boat arrangement was easier on the eyes. I decided to pull the back end of the peach boat to fill some of the void left behind, because the resulting void looked even worse. Unfortunately, other comps. using the other boats just didn't work for me. Such is life. Enjoyed view your B&W's - again!

Regards, Harry
