I have a folder of some recent avocet and stilts (birds). I like the

overall composition of this one the most. Comments on this or

others in the folder appreciated. Thanks in advance. Mark

I think this image could stand to be zoomed in. The subject is the bird, not the water or grass. Only enough water and weeds need to be shown to state context. Crop off an inch of the bottom and 1 1/4 in from the left. Otherwise it is a nice portrait.

While I, too, would prefer a closer shot of the avocet, I know from experience that birds often have ideas other than posing cooperatively when approached. Nonetheless, this is still a shot I would not discard.

Your image 742259 and the Attack of the Egret folder are fantastic.

Not enough depth of field- disturbs the composition. The main focus includes grass as well as water.

Although I tend to agree in principle with other comments posted, my feeling on this is that only about an inch or so should be cropped from left-hand side. Reason being there may well be a case here for grounding your bird (I love ALL your bird shots) in his natural environment and maintaining all that lovely reflection, and water features, as much as possible. I think it could work and be a bit more than a portrait. Just a suggestion from an admirer of your work!!

I want to clarify that my point was to maintain the environment and not just get the bird. I have close ups of the avocet but i liked the reflections. I think the additional crop to improve upon the DOF in hte photo is a good idea. Mark
