Installing the Battens

LenMarriott

'Auto' exposure @ f16. Minor levels adjustment in PS. Don't know what 'battens' are? Neither did this landlubber. Look it up! :-) Best, LM.

It has a strong lens flare, but it works nice in this one, as a backlight photo of marin subject. it have the feeling of a "northern stare". I like the lighted spare and part of the sea( lower part) and the upper blue sky, creating the right atmospher. vs, the silhouetted man.

Pnina, Thank you so much for taking the time to first view and then to comment on this offering. I knew the lens would flare but wasn't concerned about it. I too actually like it. The strong dramatic backlight was a major attraction for me here and I also knew that aiming the camera right into the sun would result in underexposure & thus dark skies. Pretty much no surprises. Best, LM.

Pnina is correct - the lens flare makes this shot work! This is definitely one to hang on the wall. Everything about it really comes together - the lighting, the composition, the nautical elements. Great shot!

Lou Ann, Nice to hear from you again. Hang on the wall? Well, I've printed it so I'm part way there. The 17mm superwide is definitely one lens you don't want to leave behind when going sailing. Very satisfying results. As for nautical terms, 'battens' (sail stiffeners) was the only one I learned that day. Oh, yah, and 'take the tiller for a moment'. Tiller? What the @#$%& is a tiller? Oh, that steering thingy! OK. Live & learn. Best, LM.
