lawbert 0 Posted August 7, 2008 Very well framed image with a good slow shutter to give the fast water a real smoke to it. Best Regards Paul Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted August 9, 2008 Mark, I've wanted to shoot Crystal Mill ever since I picked up a cast-a-way framed photo at a garage sale. This is an excellent springtime shot and one of the better ones at that. You've done well with the dynamic range and maintaing a natural look. Any tips you could provide about getting there and shooting, would be appreciated. I hope to get their next year... Best of luck! Zeph Link to comment
mark_kay 0 Posted August 9, 2008 HI Zeph.. Well the best way is to drive. Go towards Marble. When you get to Marble there are two pathways to travel. The safer one is towards Crystal City. I wanted to go full circle but it started raining and the other half of the loop was supposed to be more dangerous. I felt the direction I went was bad enough. You definitely need 4 wheel drive and no a low riding vehicle. I stopped at the general store in Marble and confirmed the route before I started off. Also would not go if real wet. On the way back it was raining and it made the road even worse. I was fortunate that the sun was partially filtered via the clouds. I just was fortunate as I was not sure what to expect. I think I took this about 3 or 4p. I was told morning light is quite good there. It takes a long time to go the 6 miles once in Marble to this spot.. About 45 min or an hour. For the shot I did use a neutral density filter to slow the shutter and in some of my images I had a polarizer on as well. I cannot remember about this one but the exposure was about 2 seconds.
