Guest Guest Posted August 11, 2008 Very nice concept. Backlighting is often so tough because it tends to put the subject in shadow and create that silhouette feel. Here, you've captured the face and eye beautifully because of the way the light is working. The delicacy of the light on his hood and jacket is very nicely done and his ponderous expression is enhanced by the mood of the cave. It's interesting, the top left segment of the photo is playing an optical illusion on me. Sometimes I see it as the overhang of the cave and other times it's as if you cut a jagged edge along the photo and the photo simply ends right there. You've established a great sense of depth here from foreground to background, something I really love experiencing in a photo. Great model! Link to comment
dougbrill 0 Posted August 11, 2008 Thanks Fred, Yes he is a great model when he agrees to have his picture taken. But he is always a good son (even when he is not)! I see what you mean about the rock in the foreground. Maybe lightening it a bit would show that it is in fact a rock. On our last conversation about connecting with the people you photograph, I think the mood or vibe that is going on has an impact as well. This was just a fun family day at the beach and we found this cave at low tide. A little fun and adventure and Whoalla - a nice picture. Link to comment

mg 0 Posted September 27, 2008 Probably my favorite among your b&w portraits. Great light and place ! Perhaps just a bit too posy, but it's ok. Regards. Link to comment
dougbrill 0 Posted September 28, 2008 Parham, Hamed and Adan Thank you all for your kind words.Marc. Thanks. I like this portrait a lot too. It's my son and he punishes his Dad by not wanting to have his picture taken, so I take what I can get.All the best to you all!DB Link to comment
