Information for those whose interests extend beyond photography: It is

my understanding that the stone for these columns was quarried in

Egypt, sent on barges down the Nile and then transported by ship on

the Meditterranean to somewhere around Beruit, Lebanon in the latter

days of the Roman Empire. From there, they were somehow

transported across the Lebanon Mtns. and assembled at Baalbek in

Eastern Lebanon near the Syrian border.

As I already said these Romans were quite strange people! In my works I see on the Roman empire as on the source of today's evil, but they have done quite some nice things which has cost them so much!
