gungajim 75 Posted August 1, 2008 Information for those whose interests extend beyond photography: It is my understanding that the stone for these columns was quarried in Egypt, sent on barges down the Nile and then transported by ship on the Meditterranean to somewhere around Beruit, Lebanon in the latter days of the Roman Empire. From there, they were somehow transported across the Lebanon Mtns. and assembled at Baalbek in Eastern Lebanon near the Syrian border. Link to comment
