Hi, was just wondering if you used a flash on this image (and some of the other one's in your portfolio too)? Or whether it's all natural lighting? It's an interesting shot, but somehow the birds almost look like they are un-naturally bright, therefore my question about the flash. Thanks, just trying to learn. :) (P.s. Thanks for the work you did on one of my bird images the other day. I did alter the photo some after your suggestion, though I enjoy the somewhat softer light that I saw that day to the more harsh light that the color balance seemed to produce in Photoshop, so left that part as-is.)

for Deborah Scholom...

No flash at all, in fact I rarely ever have it on. This is the really intense morning sunlight that helps to bring out the detail and sharpness in the black feathers. Other shots the sunlight is usually at my back for the same type of reason.

All I really did is go into PhotoShop and autoadjust levels, contrast and color. Then I brought the Curves down a bit to accentuate the orange, fill in the white and darken things a bit... I crop to fit the standard 12x18 and down to 4x6 that most retail photo shops make prints in.

That pretty much sums up my desire to use PhotoShop, which I now realize some people call Workflow. I knew virtually nothing about this sort of stuff when I joined photo.net and try to keep things simple and as "pure" as I can. Not only is extensive photoshopping un-natural to me, but really time consuming.

thanks for taking the time to view and comment and good luck with your photos

here is the original shot.
