dave holmes 0 Posted August 1, 2008 Excellent capture Jamie. The whole image seems somewhat pink, which you probably intended. Not a complaint. Nice composition with the match jar dead center. Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted August 14, 2008 I made a conscious decision to leave them as the were for the show nearly four years ago. Getting something like that together for the first time is overwhelming, and an unintended colour cast could easily slip through. This one was chosen by our local "City Life" magazine to advertise the show, by the way. That was a real boost! Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted August 19, 2008 An image I showed in an exhibit about four years ago. How does it stand up today? Send me an email if you would like a link to the presentation of the whole exhibition. Link to comment
j_sevigny 0 Posted August 20, 2008 Nice shot. I don't think an image gains or loses anything after four years. I mean, we're talking about images on paper, not PCs or Macs. The other critical question is how does it stand up to what? The photo hasn't changed so we can't compare it to itself. I suppose we could look at how was it received then and how will it be received now. B that's a more difficult question. Given that the subject matter is more or less contemporary, it's going to depend on the audience. Apart from all that philosophical stuff, it looks like you've got some streaking near the top of the image due to high iso/low light. For me, that's pretty much a picture killer. The shape on the right side of the frame is a little distracting and I'm not really able to figure out who these women are, what their relationship is, or what the significance is of the title. Not that it's your responsibility to tell us, but I think the photograph is a little opaque. What makes the picture nice -- really nice -- is the light, the pallette and the contrast of front of woman/back of woman. I do like this picture. I don't critique pictures I don't like. :) JS Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted August 20, 2008 Hi, Thanks a lot. That's quite thoughtful. For me, judging something after a long interval is not so esoteric. The question is, more or less, "How terrible is the image given my current standards, experience, and equipment?" I certainly agree about the banding. I think the opacity is brilliant, though. Without it, the image wouldn't be as striking. I'm not much on excessive thinking, but it does highlight the anonymity of this sort of city job. Incidentally, I don't think it's cropped on top, I took it more or less as it is. I'll search for the original. Link to comment
dave holmes 0 Posted August 20, 2008 your argument about anonymity is spot on...the shot conveys that quite clearly. Link to comment
sue_foll1 0 Posted November 24, 2008 Very inspired composition here, focusing on the posture of the bored waitresses. I like the context of the matchbooks and slightly wonky light. Link to comment
sue_foll1 0 Posted November 25, 2008 It just takes a couple of glasses of wine and the rest is attitude ;-) Link to comment
