jerrymat 5 Posted July 28, 2008 When I see the comment "totally unmanipulated" I want to say "Good grief - Why?" That is like saying with film "drugstore processing!" as though you were proud of it. What happens in the darkroom with film and in the computer with digital imaging is what is done to make a good beginning into a masterpiece! And don't pretend that you did no manipulating in the camera. Photography is nothing but manipulation from start to finish. You choose the camera and lens and maybe a filter, f/stop, shutter speed, lighting, etc, etc. Photography is the manipulation you do to create a final image after seeing something worth commemorating. Don't leave out half of it. If you are using j-peg, stop and begin using camera raw. Then you take the drugstore processing that the camera does out of the equation and start controlling the manipulations that make a photo into something. This photo varies from soot black to chalk white. The histogram of this jpeg shows overexposure on the cheek that prevents computer correction because the highlights are jammed into identical over exposed values. Would you want to fly with an airline that said it's aircraft had no maintenance after leaving the factory? Would you want to buy a car that had never had it's oil changed? Of course not. What you had in mind when you posed this lovely lady is what you want the image to look like. Don't take pictures - make pictures - with every tool and technique available! Learn to master all the manipulations available! It will make you a happy person. Link to comment
