In the first posting of this image I made a selection via the blue

channel of the window and actually lighten the far mountain to give it

a feeling of bright light compared to boulder walls. This was how it

actually appeared when I took the photograph. But it was pointed out

to me by both Anish Desai and Mark Geistweite that the image could be

improved by darkening the far mountains. Upon viewing Mark's attached

image I saw that this indeed made for a better presentation. I have

revamped the image and I would like to hear what your opinions. Thank

you Mark and Anish for your suggestions.

I looked at them both and this one is definately an improvement I think but still the far mountain seems to me to fall flat from your rich colors in the foreground I think because of the overwhelming darkness surrounding. It loses some lovely detail in the rocks on the left but maybe a square format crop of the right side would de-emphasize that darkness and draw you to the inside more.

I don't think you can improve upon this. I am sure there are other possibilities to explore, other renderings and interpretations, but I think the current post is brilliant. I like this because it is so unique. Takes patience and discipline to find a jewel like this.

I agree with Mark, Leo; I think you've done a terrific job with this one. It carries you through all the way to the misty mountain in the distance. A really unique and interesting view, and one of the more interesting Alabama Hills photographs that I've come across. Well done, Amigo! Cheers! Chris

Thank you Clayton, Mark and Chris for your comments and Mark for taking the time to render a image and the same to you Clayton. Sometimes you don't see the forrest for the trees!

BTW, fix your location information in the details section. You have this as Yosemite/Tuolumne. After you do so, I'll delete this comment. Cheers! The Bear

First off, this is a fantastic shot. Great diagonal lines as well as curve, all of which really accentuate the 'portal'. I took a look at your original post and much prefer this with the darkened mountain. Perhaps the darkened mountain gives a greater sense of depth and scale, I don't know...but either way, I really like this.

I love the shapes and the flowing diagonals but it's the texture and particularly the detailed nature of it that I find exciting. If ever there was an image that made me want to run my hands over this has to be it!
